The guides on Repair Habit are written in good faith by people who have actually done the repairs they describe. We test what we publish on our own things, and we update guides when we discover better ways. We are still humans on the internet, however, which means the following caveats apply.
You are responsible for your own work
Repair work involves tools, electricity, water, sharp edges, hot surfaces, chemicals, and occasionally heights. Anything you do based on a guide on this site is done at your own risk. We strongly recommend that you stop, step back, and call a qualified professional if a repair feels beyond your skill level, requires permits, involves gas appliances, mains wiring, or anything that could meaningfully injure you, your family, your pets, or your home.
Warranties and qualified professionals
Many products on the market are still under warranty when they first fail. Opening, disassembling, or modifying them can void that warranty. We are not your warranty advisor. If a product is under warranty, the first thing you should usually do is contact the manufacturer.
For appliances connected to mains gas, mains electricity, or that affect the structural integrity of your home, you should hire a licensed professional. We will say so in the relevant guide. If we do not say so, it does not automatically mean a job is safe for you; it just means we did not think to mention it for that particular case.
No guarantee of results
Repairs depend on countless variables we cannot see from where we are sitting: the exact model and revision of your item, how it has been used, the climate it lives in, the parts you sourced, the tools you used, the temperature of the room, and the time you have spent on the job. We share what worked for us. We cannot promise it will work for you.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy something after clicking through. We only link to products we have actually used and would recommend to a friend. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more detail.
External links
Where we link out to external websites, we do so because the information there was useful at the time we linked to it. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, security, or accuracy.
Medical, legal, or financial decisions
Nothing on this site is medical, legal, or financial advice. If a maintenance question touches on any of those areas (for example, mould remediation, lease obligations, insurance claims), please speak to a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
